When I first read the name Hirokazu Kore-eda I had to do a search on google. I knew I had seen/heard the name before but it wasn't until I saw the titles of some of his movies that I realized who he was.
Anyone remember seeing a movie titled, Nobody Knows (Dare Mo Shiranai)? Please have a look at the trailer below,
I first saw this movie while in College when the film department was showing a series of Japanese films. I recall that although this was based on a true story, my first reaction was that it was a bit too long.. I recently saw this again a little bit aog and felt that it tells a touching story (still too long) and was a bit sad but still enjoyable.
I was very surprised to hear that NYC would have all of Hirokazu Kore-eda's movies, and be showing them at their BAM Rose Cinemas. Below are the list of movies with the dates. If you would like further info on each title, please click the movie title to go to it's page for more info.

[EVENT ALERT] BAMcinématek features The Films of Hirokazu Kore-eda

I just came back from the showing of Aruitemo Aruitemo "Still Walking". It is a great film. I have seen 3 Koreeda films so far (the other two are Nobody Knows and After Life) and "Still Walking" is on par with those two. It is a great film about family and not as dark as the other two I've seen... but still carries a serious and profound message.
Koreeda's Q&A added to the film as he talked extensively about his mother (the inspiration of the film). He seemed like an intelligent, sensible, friendly person who is so humble. It was great to be able to hear his perspective.
I am going to catch Nobody Knows with the Q&A tomorrow and After Life next Friday. I think BAM is awesome for showcasing Koreeda films and I'm really glad that I went :)

Thanks for your imput Kat. I'm glad you were able to go see the film. I won't get a chance until next week. I've seen Nobody Knows twice, and I would love to catch the Q&A but I will miss it due to work. Please let me know how the Q&A WENT AND WHAT Koreeda has to say about this work
