I thouhgt it impossible to find melon pan in NYC and I was able to.. so next I moved onto TAKOYAKI, THINKING THAT TOO WAS IMPOSSIBLE.. but i was wrong! A few weeks ago I stumbled on a little (and I mean very little) Shop called Otafuku It's very rare to find this stuff in New York. Consider yourself lucky if you go.
Please don't let the hole-in-the-wall appearance fool you. Yes, this place is probably smaller than your bathroom but the food is great plus there is a bench outside where you can sit, eat, and of course, people watch. The first time I went to Otafuku, I got myself COMBO B i think it was. This consisted of takoyaki and okonomiyaki, which is often called Japanese pizza but is more like a savory thick pancake filled with cabbage, squid, shrimp, pork, or beef and topped with a special sauce, mayonnaise, dried bonito flakes, and seaweed powder. As soon as I took my first bite, I was brought back to the time I was in Japan. I remember my host mother fixing takoyaki and it was amazing. I was so sad to go home and think I wouldn't eat this every again(or until I could get back to Japan)
When I went the second time I was please with the food yet again , but I also had some nice eyecandy too ;-) I have a thing for Japanese guys with long hair and there was this guy there who was... wow.. well yeah you get the picture. :-)
I'm laking a real camera so these cell phone pics will have to do for now.. but honestly, this was so good! If you are in the NYC area this is a MUST VISIT place.
Here is the full address for those that would like to eat here.
